As campaigns for the 2019, it is important we set some things right at the outset. The number one thing is that Political communications must not necessarily be adversarial for it to be effective. Politicians and their supporters must learn to make their point in such a manner that they don’t deliberately seek to insult their opponents. I believe everyone and every political party has something good to offer, it may not meet your expectations, but it’s important to acknowledge the good others have to offer and counter them with the greater good your own side wants to offer. This is responsible public communication.
If we follow this approach, we will reduce the level of hatred ad acrimony in our polity. At the end of the day, we will still remain as Nigerians. We should not forget that it not political parties that deliver on good governance; it is individual political leaders that choose to do that. Political parties are only a platform through which individuals access political leadership.
Let the electorates learn to properly interrogate individuals seeking political offices and not get fixated on the political party platforms they stand on. Political platforms are inanimate, individuals animate the platforms.
Let everyone become a little more temperate in their use of words during this campaign period.
Thank you and remain a patriotic Nigerian.
